| Welcome to the homepage for the Butts County Board of Commissioners & the General Government of Butts County, Georgia. Butts County was formed in 1825 and was named after Captain Samuel Butts, an honored war veteran at the time. Our general administration offices are located in the new Butts County Administration Facility at 625 West Third Street, pictured above. Please contact us or stop by for further information about our services and departments. Our professional staff will be happy to assist you. Butts County was recently named one of twelve Signature Communities in Georgia, which means we're serious about quality planning and development. If you are just visiting Butts County, we hope you will take advantage of our area recreational venues such as Indian Springs State Park (the nation's oldest state park), Jackson Lake, Dauset Trails Nature Center and High Falls State Park. For fine shopping, check out the Village at Indian Springs, which is fast gaining a reputation for its top-notch shopping, dining and historical aspects; in fact, it was recently covered in Southern Living magazine. Downtown Jackson preserves much of the architecture of an earlier and simpler time, with historic churches, an 1898 Victorian courthouse, turn-of-the-20th-century store buildings and more. We're proud of our historical heritage and want to share it with you. If you just want to stop and have dinner, some of the best steak, seafood, fried chicken and barbecue in Georgia coexist with cuisine from from China, Mexico and Italy. The City of Jackson alone has 17 different eating establishments, four of which are national chains. Our County recreation facilities are second to none and we take pride in showcasing them by hosting regional and state tournaments from time to time. We are located 40 miles south of Atlanta and 35 miles north of Macon, just a few miles off of Interstate 75 (Exits 201 and 205). For tourism, industrial or commercial information, please stop by the Visitors Center located one block east of the courthouse on Third Street (the new visitors center will be open in February in the County Administration Facility). This office houses the Chamber of Commerce and Industrial Development Authority, who can assist you with information in these areas. We hope you will visit our webpage again for updates and new information. Sincerely, The Butts County Board of Commissioners, Management & Staff |
