| Butts County Sheriff's Office This agency is headed by Sheriff Gene Pope and is responsible for local law enforcement, traffic enforcement, preventive patrol and investigations of criminal activities. The Sheriff's Office also services the Courts by providing courthouse security and service of legal papers for Magistrate, Probate and Superior Court. Its other major responsibility is managing the 300 bed Butts County Detention Facility and its inmate population. Sheriff Pope was elected in 1992 and took office in 1993. | Butts County District Attorney's Office The District Attorney's Office serves the citizens of Butts, Lamar and Monroe Counties through the Towaliga Judicial Circuit. This office is responsible for the investigation of crimes and prosecution of criminal acts within its jurisdiction. Richard Milam is the District Attorney, assisted by a staff of trained investigators and prosecuting attorneys plus support staff. | Butts County Probate Court This court is responsible for county traffic court, wills, marriage licenses, death certificates and gun permits among many other duties. This office also archives many record of Butts County dating back to the founding of the County. | Clerk of the Superior Court This office is responsible for the archiving of legal records, deeds, plats and management of the court docket for the Superior Court and the Juvenile Courts of Butts County.
