Gerald Kersey was elected in 1998 to fill the unexpired term of his predecessor. He was elected to his own term in 2000 and re-elected in 2004. Commissioner Kersey is retired from the Georgia Department of Natural Resources where he served as a Sergeant Generalist. He has since worked on a part time and consulting basis as an instructor with the Georgia Public Safety Training Center teaching Judgemental Use of Force. He also serves on several state committees including the Governor's All Hazards Council (Vice Chairman 2004 & 2005) and the Natural Resources Committee of A.C.C.G. He previous served 1 term as Chairman in 2003. Most recently, Kersey was involved with the Griffin Tech for Butts County effort and the McIntosh Trail Workforce Development Board. He is also a graduate of Leadership Butts County and former co-chairperson for class of 2007.

Commissioner Kersey holds the following certifications:

He has served two one-year terms as Chairman of the Board of Commissioners, in both 2003 and 2005 and half of 2007. He served as Vice Chairman in 1999 as well.

It is my honor and privilege to have served the citizens of Butts County and District 1 since 1998. During my tenure on the Board, it has been my goal to always derive the most benefit from every dollar of tax money spent and I feel we have been successful in doing that.
