The 1897 Carmichael House is located a few blocks west of the square in Jackson. A Queen Anne/Victorian style mansion, this three story house is on the National Register of Historic Places. It is shown here at left when first completed. The house remained in the Carmichael family until the 1990's. Today, this historic manor is still a private home but has hosted many art festivals and other community events. Other than the gazebo, which disappeared many decades ago, and the current colors and landscaping, the house appears today as it looked then, a stately and well preserved home. |

The Old First Baptist Church is located a few blocks east of the square. It was built around 1919 and is the only domed structure in Butts County. It is a Greek Revivial style building of yellow brick with a pedimented portico on the north face. It was vacated by First Baptist in 1974 and became First Assembly of God until 2003. It was refurbished and on September 8, 2006 it became home to United Bible Ministries Church. It is within easy walking distance of downtown |

The Gothic style Jackson United Methodist Church is also located a few blocks east of the square. It was built in 1924, along with the old parsonage pictured next to it. The church is still in use today although it has had many additions since then. All the additions are architecturally in keeping with the original design and the complex takes up several blocks of East Third Street. The old parsonage is perfectly preserved and houses the church offices. It was built from leftover brick from the main church building. The interior of the sanctuary will delight the senses with its towering stained glass windows, arches and massive quantities of sculpted wood. It houses one of the only two pipe organs in Butts County. It is still in use by the congregation today. |

| This picture at right was taken circa 1956. Downtown Jackson looks very much the same today as it did fifty years ago. Viewed is Second Street looking West. Deraneys shown at the far end of the street is still in business today by the same family. The Jackson Hardware building is now occupied by Jackson Drugs. |
